What To Wear To a Holiday Event + The Perfect Holiday Heels

November 16, 2018

what-to-wear-to-a-holiday-event

Who else is ready for turkey & stuffing?? 🙋🏽‍♀️ I feel like the holidays alway sneak up on us. From checking off your gift list to planning events, everything comes up sooo fast. For me, I always feel like I’m rushing to figure out what to wear for the holidays and never feel completely satisfied with the outcome due to this. This year I have come to the realization that you only need main item in your holiday outfit, whether it’s for a family gathering or work event, to make it a winner. An item that is something sparkly, metallic, and/or velvet to revolve the rest of your holiday outfit around!

This year, I didn’t need to search far to find this magical item to complete my outfit. I came across it by accident when online shopping on ASOS and it immediately spoke to me; the most perfect holiday heels I have ever laid my eyes on. I mean come on, the whole heel is encrusted in RHINESTONES! Plus the satin raspberry color and pop of embellishment in the front is perfectly festive. What’s even better is that these holiday heels are currently on sale for 40% off (walk, don’t run)! I absolutely love their block heel and pointed toe combination.

I think the easiest outfit to put together for any type of holiday event is a long sleeve shirt paired with a skirt and heels. Now this is the base of your outfit. There are many opportunities to spruce it up and customize it to your liking from once you have the base down. Tights, no tights. Jewelry, no jewelry. Pump heels, boot heels. Handbag, clutch. The options are endless! For this specific outfit I am wearing an embellished collared button up from MANGO, black flare skirt (from a few years ago – see similar options linked below), ASOS embellished heels, and sparkly Marc Jacobs clutch (from a few years ago – see similar options below).

Because I love everything sparkly and glam, here are a few more festive clutches that I love.  I am biased towards a more holiday glam look, so all of these items are perfect to achieve this style. What holiday events will you be dressing up for this year? Comment them below!

Fall Style For The City Girl

August 12, 2018

Who else is excited for boot & sweater weather?? Fall is a close second to Summer being my favorite season. I think this is mainly due to my love for boots, pumpkin flavored everything and coziness. And with any new season comes new coveted closet go-tos. Fall seems to always sneak up on me, especially here in Chicago where the season changes in a day. How To Dress For a Wedding

May 30, 2018

It’s wedding season! Absolutely the best time to update your wardrobe with new dresses. The big question, though, is what to wear with depending on the event type.

In this day and age many weddings have gone the casual, but not too casual, route. There are, however, a few diamonds in the rough that grace the formal theme. When invited to an event with a not-so-familiar dress code it’s hard to know what to wear. From shopping online sales to scouring the formal dress section at Macy’s, finding the perfect dress (or tux) may seem hopeless with no dress code background. Luckily, The Black Tux, an online suit and tuxedo rental site, broke it down by event type (it’s about time somebody did!).

Will you be attending a wedding soon as a guest? Make sure to follow the above guide for easy shopping! And, if your date is looking for an easy suit or tux rental – let’s be real, guys will wait until the last minute to find something – The Black Tux offers the perfect fit and free shipping!

At a recent family wedding I sported the casual look, a light yellow boho floral dress from Rebecca Minkoff with the absolute best pair of heels from A New Day at Target (I swear by them for any occasion). The dress was love at first sight and the idea of being able to wear it again for work or a drink out with the girls was a hands down win. Shopping for a formal wedding, however, was a different beast. Should I get something short or long? Are embellishments too much? I was so worried about type of dress would be the perfect style when I should have just gone with what I loved and would wear again. After hours of searching, I went with the most beautiful rose gold floor length gown that made me feel like Megan Markle.

Springing in the New Season with Florals & Murals

March 27, 2018

Chicago’s blistering winter is slowly blooming into glimpses of sunshine, florals, and the long awaited return of frozĂ©. With Spring Break vacays in tow, I turned to (new and old) staples to highlight in my wardrobe.

Onyx Necklace: 6th Borough Boutique // Vintage Floral Top:  Style&Co at Macy’s // Skinny Jeans: AKIRA // Embellished Handbag: Kate Spade // Heeled Booties: Style&Co at Macy’s

My favorite new and old addition would have to be my new Vintage Floral Style&Co top from Macy’s. The smocked blouse can be styled both on and off the shoulder, allowing the flexible material to fall in place. I especially loved the smocked waistline for a flattering fit around the hips. The top usually retails for $49.50, however if you hurry, Macy’s current sale has it for less than $20!

My favorite well-loved item are my Style&Co Jamila Zip Booties from Macy’s in Taupe Microsuede. I have owned these shoes for about a year now and they are the most comfy, stylish heeled booties in my closet. With a block heel of 2-1/2”, this bootie is great for both work and socializing. They are also currently on sale!

P.S. Wanna snap a pic of your own in front of this colorful wall mural? It’s located in the alley at the bottom of the Bryn Mawr red line stop!
