New to Disney Parks and Shop Disney online are these Starbucks tumblers! The detailed, collectible drinkware is made in six different colors for the six different parks. After our recent trip to Disneyland Park where we rode all the rides and had the best character breakfast experience, I was excited to get the corresponding water tumbler. I’ve been using it nonstop and considering getting other ones, like Magic Kingdom or EPCOT.

The Disneyland Starbucks tumbler (pictured above) features Mickey Mouse, Sleeping Beauty’s castle, a carousel horse, The Haunted Mansion ghost, Pirates of the Caribbean pirate’s flag, Tiki Room bird, the Jungle Cruise boat, Space Mountain, Star Wars Galaxy Edge, Dole Whip, It’s a Small World clock, and Splash Mountain. Disneyland Park Travel Guide

I recently went on a Disneyland Park vacation and it was MAGICAL. For the past few years, we’ve gone to Walt Disney World, so it was a nice change to experience a different Disney Park. This trip included a visit to Downtown Disney, Disneyland Park, and Disney California Adventure Park. We rode our favorite rides with little wait time (thanks to Genie+), took awesome photos (thanks to Disney PhotoPass), met our favorite characters, and ate our favorite Disney snacks. Over the years I’ve obtained tips and tricks for planning a great Disney vacation (view my Walt Disney World travel guide here). Keep reading for a comprehensive Disneyland Park travel guide!

Disneyland Vacation Planning To-Do List

Create a My Disney Experience account and download the Disneyland mobile app. Your account will be used to book your park tickets, reserve dining, check ride wait times, view the park map, reserve Genie+ selections, do mobile food ordering, and more. Make sure you remember your password! You’ll be accessing the app all day at the park.
Book your hotel stay (read where to stay below)
Purchase your Disneyland park ticket (Add Genie+, PhotoPass is included)
Make any Disney Dining or Special Event reservations (available 60 days prior to your park day)

Where to Stay During a Disneyland Trip

The hotel situation for Disneyland vs. Walt Disney World is very different. Staying at a Disney Resort Hotel is extremely beneficial at Walt Disney World due to all its park perks, however, it is absolutely not necessary for Disneyland. The Disneyland Resort Hotels are pricey and, in my opinion, the price increase is not worth being right by Downtown Disney. There are many hotels right outside the parks on South Harbor Blvd. that are affordable and within walking distance. It took us less than ten minutes to walk from our hotel (Grand Legacy at the Park – we had a 3-star stay) to the Disneyland Park entrance. Very easy & doable!

Disney Genie+

Genie+ is THE BEST add-on and is infinitely worth the cost. For $25 extra per park ticket, Genie+ allows you to select a “fast pass” for selected rides. The moment we entered the park, I went into the Disneyland app and selected Indiana Jones Adventure for an 8:05 AM -9:05 AM timeslot. We only waited 10 minutes in the Genie+ Lightning Lane line compared to the rising wait times in the Standby Line (this ride can get up to a 60-70min wait). If you hate waiting in long lines, Genie+ is a huge help. You can select a new Genie+ selection every two hours OR right after using your current selection.

Disney PhotoPass

Disneyland tickets include Disney PhotoPass, which is a great park perk. In your Disneyland app, select “PhotoPass” under the map toggle to find the designated PhotoPass spots. Professional Disney photographers will take your picture in front of iconic park spots and with Disney characters. After the photos are taken, hold out your MagicBand or find the barcode in the app to link the pictures to your account. PhotoPass was great because we were able to get nice pictures of the two of us together!

Disneyland Snacks & Treats

One of the best things about Disneyland is the snacks and treats. There are so many great ones! New options are always being added as well. Specialty churro flavors, for example, rotate. When we went in May 2023, the churro cart in Tomorrowland featured a Chai Spiced Churro with a coffee cream dipping sauce that was delicious (pictured above). I also tried a Mickey pretzel (8/10), Mickey beignets from New Orleans Square (9/10), and a mango/pineapple DOLE Whip Swirl from The Tropical Hideout in Adventureland (9/10). Disneyland Park Itinerary Example

There are many different ways you can enjoy the park, but you will get the lowest wait times within the first two hours of the park opening (8:00-10:00 AM). We made sure to get to the entrance early to be ready for rope drop at 8:00 AM inside the park. There are fireworks at night (9:30 PM) but we’re more early birds so we were fine skipping it. However, the fireworks are awesome and something to consider if you still have energy that late! Here’s the itinerary we did and we were very happy with the results.

7:20 AM – Arrived at the park entrance, went through security, and entered the park
7:30-7:55 AM – Made our first Genie+ selection (Indiana Jones Adventure), took pictures at PhotoPass spots on Main Street
7:55-8:00 AM – Waited near Adventureland for rope drop
8:05-8:20 AM – Waited in Indiana Jones Lightning Lane line, selected next Genie+ selection (Haunted Mansion), rode the best ride ever
8:20-8:35 AM – Haunted Mansion ride
8:35-8:50 AM – The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride
8:50-9:20 AM – Walked back towards Main Street, took pictures at PhotoPass in front of the castle
9:30-10:40 AM – Character breakfast at Plaza Inn
10:40-11:10 AM – Pirates of the Caribbean ride
11:10-11:30 AM – Got Mickey beignets and shopped in New Orleans Square

Make sure to constantly be checking the map in the Disneyland app for ride wait times, character locations, parade times, and PhotoPass spots. The app will be your temporary best friend!

Packing the right things can make or break your park experience. For example, between checking the Disneyland app and taking pictures, your phone battery will start to drain. A portable phone charger is a lifesaver.

Park outfit – comfortable shoes, Mickey Ears (I usually get mine from Etsy), slip shorts to prevent thigh chafing, your MagicBand, hat if desired
Backpack essentials – portable phone charger, travel water bottle, Bandaids, Aquaphor, Advil, mini hair bush, hair ties, deodorant, sunscreen, sweatshirt in case you get cold towards night
Misc. – money for food & souvenirs (card and cash), autograph book, pennies for penny machines

Character Dining at Plaza Inn Disneyland

Character dining at a Disney Park is one of the most magical, unique experiences you can do while visiting. During our recent trip to Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, we made a Disney Dining reservation for the Minnie & Friends character breakfast at Plaza Inn. It was extremely worth it! Character dining is now on my list of Disney Park must-dos along with purchasing Genie+ and utilizing Disney PhotoPass. Read below to learn all about Disneyland character dining at Plaza Inn, located off Main Street near Sleeping Beauty’s castle.

What to Expect

Reservations are needed for many Disney Park restaurants, but especially for character dining. These can be made up to 60 days in advance of your reserved park day and are sure to book up. They’re popular for good reason! Minnie & Friends Breakfast in the Park at Plaza Inn is the only character dining option offered inside Disneyland Park. Prices for the buffet are fixed at $35-$60 per person depending on the time of your visit. We went in May 2023 and paid $42 each. Trust me, it was worth it!

When you arrive at Plaza Inn for your character breakfast reservation, check in at the outside desk and step to the side to get a picture with Minnie Mouse. Disney PhotoPass will be there to take quality pics! Then head inside to take a Minnie Mouse Plaza Inn souvenir pin, be shown to your table (indoor & outdoor seating available), and be given a run-through of the offered buffet.

The Food

Plaza Inn’s Minnie & Friends Breakfast in the Park is an all-you-can-eat buffet. We made our reservation for 9:30 AM so we could do a big ride or two before eating (make sure to arrive at the park early for rope drop). I really enjoyed the food! Different stations are offered for your choosing, including:

French toast
Made-to-order omelets
Scrambled eggs (regular & sausage)
Minnie waffles (I recommend the bananas foster topping!)
Breakfast potatoes and bacon
Biscuits and gravy
Assorted cereals and fruits
Variety of muffins, croissants, and danishes

Meeting the Disney Characters

The best part about character dining is – you guessed it – interacting with the Disney characters. Minnie Mouse will always be at Plaza Inn’s character breakfast, while the other characters are a toss-up of classic favorites. While eating, characters will go table-to-table to say hi, take pictures, and sign autograph books. We saw Chip & Dale, Pluto, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and the female mice from Cinderella (Perla & Suzy)! All of the characters were very friendly and engaging. I was smiling ear-to-ear by the time we resumed our park itinerary.

Overall, I can confidently say that character dining at a Disney Park is worth it. It allowed us to see multiple Disney characters in one place, making the most of our time there, while enjoying a delicious meal. I definitely plan to make character dining reservations again in the future, whether vacationing at Disneyland or Walt Disney World!

Disney 100th Anniversary Collectible Medallions

New Disneyland Collectible Medallions

In celebration of Disneyland’s 100th Anniversary, a limited release of collectible medallions are currently available at Disneyland Park, Disney’s California Adventure Park, Downtown Disney District, and on-property Disney hotels. They feature Disney’s best characters including classic ones, princesses, Pixar, Star Wars, Disney rides, and more. Keep reading to learn where to find them this year (2023)!

Collectible Medallion Prices

The Disney 100th Anniversary Collectible Medallions are one for $6 or four for $20. Credit cards can be used on the four-for $20 deal only. Cash is required for everything else. The machines accept $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills and DO NOT give back change. I recommend viewing the list of offered characters below to plan ahead which ones and how many collectible medallions you want to buy during your visit. That way you’ll have an estimate on how much you’ll spend and what cash you’ll need. Disney offers a Disney Parks 2023 100th Anniversary Mickey Souvenir Medallion Collector Book to keep the medallions you buy altogether. These can be found in the parks for $24.99 and on eBay if you want to buy from home.

Dining at Walt Disney World

One of the best things about Walt Disney World and other Disney Parks is that they offer a variety of dining options during your hotel stay and at the theme parks. Some are quick service while others are sit-down and require a reservation. Side note: many of my favorite quick service places are sweets-focused. Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance of your reserved park day and are sure to book up. Learn all about making a Disney dining reservation in this blog post. Below I’ve listed my favorite restaurants below that you can’t miss during your next visit!

My Favorite Quick Service Dining at Walt Disney World

Storybook Treats in Magic Kingdom

Storybook Treats in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland section is a great place for a unique treat. Located straight across from the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, this quick service spot offers themed ice cream cones that are both tasty and aesthetically pleasing. Pictured above is their Tink Pixie Dust Cone from a few years ago. This cone is no longer available, however the Snow White Cone pictured above is! Storybook Treats also offers a Sevens Dwarfs Speciality Cone, regular soft serve, floats, and sundaes.

Gaston’s Tavern in Magic Kingdom

Gaston’s Tavern in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland section is the perfect place to get something sweet and savory. The quick service restaurant is known for its ham/provolone/swiss sandwiches, warm cinnamon roles, themed dome cakes, and LeFou’s Brew (frozen apple juice with a hint of toasted marshmallow). The interior is also designed to look like the tavern Gaston loves in the Beauty and the Beast movie!

Sommerfest in EPCOT

Sommerfest is located in the Germany Pavillion of EPCOT’s World Showcase. This spot is festive, tasty, and fast for a quick snack. You HAVE to try their jumbo pretzels like I did (pictured above)! They also sell bratwurst, pretzel bread pudding, and beer. For those of you unaware, EPCOT does serve alcohol at their dining locations compared to the other parks, which do not.

Aloha Isle in Magic Kingdom

Aloha Isle in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland section is your destination for all things DOLE Whip! This is a must-try while you’re at the parks. You can also find DOLE Whip at other Walt Disney World parks and at Disneyland Park, I just like Aloha Isle best. Here you’ll find regular DOLE Whip cups (pineapple, raspberry, vanilla, coconut, or swirl), floats, and speciality concoctions.

Woody’s Lunch Box in Hollywood Studios

Woody’s Lunch Box in Hollywood Studios’ Toy Story Land section is a great themed spot for quick eating. Located right across from the Slinky Dog Dash ride, food is ordered through a walk-up window. Sometimes there is a waiting line due to its popularity. I liked the Frozen Mystic Portal Punch, Box Tarts, and “Totchos” (pictured in my photo above). Portions are definitely sharable and I recommend doing so!

Cheshire Café in Magic Kingdom

Cheshire Café in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland section will have you grinning from ear to ear. Located right next to the Mad Tea Party ride, the quick service cafe is Alice in Wonderland themed. They are most known for their Cheshire Cat Tails, Merry Unbirthday Cupcakes, and pepper jack pretzels. Which way did the right rabbit go? He went…that way.

Main Street Confectionery in Magic Kingdom

Main Street Confectionery on Main Street in Magic Kingdom is a great stop when you’re watching the parades, fireworks shows, or on your way out of the park. Here you can get all the treats – candy, popcorn, caramel apples, cotton candy, Mickey krispie treats, and more. My favorite are the Minnie and Mickey Mouse caramel apples! I always get one as I’m leaving the park to take back with me to my hotel.

Be Our Guest Restaurant in Magic Kingdom

Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland section will always be a favorite. Open for lunch and dinner, reservations are highly recommended to get a spot as the walkup waitlist can be long. The three Beauty and the Beast inspired dining rooms at Be Our Guest include the Grand Ballroom, the Beast’s West Wing, and The Rose Gallery. Cost is pre-fixed at $67 per adult and $9 for children (ages 3-9). This includes one appetizer, one entree, and a selection of deserts per person.

San Angel Inn Restaurante in EPCOT

San Angel Inn Restaurante in Epcot’s Mexico Pavillion is a restaurant you don’t want to miss. The indoor dining area is “inside” a Mayan-inspired ruin and, if you sit by the water, you’ll get a quick view of The Three Caballeros ride. Every time I go I have the Sopa Azteca! They also have tacos, enchiladas, carne asada, and more. After dining, check out the stores next door for shopping.

Cinderella’s Royal Table in Magic Kingdom

Cinderella’s Royal Table is located inside of Cinderella’s Castle in Magic Kingdom. This sit down restaurant is a unique character dining experience where you can meet Disney Princesses for pictures and autographs. They offer a variety of food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is $65 per adult and $39 per child. Lunch and dinner is $79 per adult and $47 per child. Character dining is always worth it!

Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in EPCOT

Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Epcot’s Norway Pavillion offers Disney Princess character dining. This is a great way to meet multiple Disney characters all at once for your souvenir pictures and autograph books. Reservations for this experience is definitely needed. Breakfast dining is $53 per adult and $34 per child. Lunch and dinner dining is $63 per adult and $41 per child. I’ve attended this once and, for character dining, I’d say the price was worth it!

Tony’s Town Square Restaurant in Magic Kingdom

Tony’s Town Square Restaurant on Main Street in Magic Kingdom is an ode to Lady and the Tramp’s romantic spaghetti kiss. The Italian menu includes spaghetti and meatballs, steak, chicken parmigiana, orecchiette with spicy Italian sausage, shrimp scampi, and more. The restaurant is located on Main Street right by the park’s entrance and is a great dinner option to end your park day with.

Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano in Hollywood Studios

Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano in the Grand Avenue section of Disney’s Hollywood Studios offers Italian fare in a sit down setting. The restaurant is located next to the Muppets Vision 3D experience where you can find a statue featuring Miss Piggy as Lady Liberty. Mama Melrose offers appetizers, pasta, flatbreads, and desert. The last time I went I got the Mama’s Italian Pasta (pictured above).

One of the best things about Disney World, Disneyland, and Disney’s California Adventure Park is that they offer a variety of dining options during your hotel stay and at the theme parks. Some are quick service while others are sit-down and require a reservation. Below you will find information on how to make a Disney dining reservation! How to Make a Disney Dining Reservation

Reservations for Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Springs, Downtown Disney, and Disney’s California Adventure Park can be made up to 60 days in advance of your reserved park day, and are sure to book up right away. Especially the ones that include character dining. The best thing for you to do is set your alarm and log on to book the moment that 60-day mark hits. After testing it multiple times myself, Disney dining reservations go live at 8am CST. This includes both the app and desktop system. Here’s what to do:

1. Log in to your My Disney Experience account

2. Search dining availability

On the app, click the plus sign at the bottom of the screen and select ‘Check Dining Availability’. Choose the number of guests, day, and time of day. Browse through available options. On desktop, go to Things to Do in the site’s main navigation and select ‘Make Reservations’ under Dining. Choose your date, time of day, and number of guests. Browse through available options.

3. Secure your reservation

Reserved dining reservations require credit card information on file to avoid last minute cancellations and no shows. You will not be charged at the time of booking your dining reservation.

4. Check your reservation confirmation

Make sure you receive a confirmation email and that you can see your reservation under ‘My Plans’ in your My Disney Experience account.

runDisney Princess Half Marathon Weekend: 5k 2022

Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

One of my top life experiences has been doing a runDisney race, specifically the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend in Orlando, Florida. This year was my third time participating in it. The first two times I did the Enchanted 10k (2016 & 2017), while this year I did the Disney Princess 5k. Both are a fun time and have the same perks! Only difference is a longer course and different featured princesses. The 2022 featured princesses were: 5k – Cinderella, 10k – Tiana, Half Marathon – Mulan, Fairy Tale Challenge – Moana. Featured princesses for each race change each year.

Not only did we do the 5k this time, but we also visited Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. Disney Princess 5k Course

Both the Disney Princess 10k and 5k go through Walt Disney World’s Epcot park. You get to walk/run around “the world”! The best part? There are Disney characters along the course that you can stop and get pictures with, either on your phone or from a Disney PhotoPass professional. These photos count towards Memory Maker downloads if you purchased it ahead of time (we did and I highly recommend). I encourage that you pick and choose which characters you stop for. There will be lines, sometimes long, and you don’t want to get too far behind on the course. The Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend features a lot of favorite Disney princesses on the course. While the races themselves start before the sun comes up, the view of sunrise in Epcot is beautiful.

Details About runDisney Race Weekends

Registration for runDisney races are done online. Race packets need to be picked up the day before your chosen event at the Expo. A free shuffle will be provided to the Expo and to the course the morning of the race if you are staying at a Disney resort hotel. A full list of my tips on how to prepare for a runDisney race can be found here.

1. Register for the race

runDisney offers a handful of race weekends each year at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and NEW for 2024 is the comeback of events at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. All can be found on the runDisney website where they will announce when registration opens. In-person spots go really fast, so it’s important that you’re online, logged into your MyDisneyExperience account, and ready to click register when your chosen race weekend goes live. Once in line, you will be able to register yourself and any additional participants if needed. Have their birthday, email address, and shirt size ready.

2. Reserve your hotel

After securing your race registration, I highly recommend that you book your hotel as soon as possible. Rooms during race weekends go fast. I also highly recommend to stay at a Disney hotel rather than outside of the parks. Disney hotels offer free shuttle buses to and from the Expo, morning of the race, and to Walt Disney World parks throughout the whole day. This is a a huge perk that will save you money!

3. Purchase your theme park tickets

Now that you have your hotel booked, it’s time to purchase and reserve your theme park tickets. runDisney race registrations do not include entry to a Disney park. Ticket options include one park per day, more than one park per day (Park Hopper), and more. Purchasing your theme park tickets is a two-parter. First, select your ticket option. Once bought, you will then need to reserve which park you want to go to and on which day. This can be done under ‘Park Reservations’ in your MyDisneyExperience portal and is a step that can not be skipped.

4. Book your flight

If outside of the area, you will need to book a flight. I start looking at options very early so I can track the prices and find a good deal. As of January 2022, Disney will no longer offer their free Magical Express shuttle from the airport to Disney resort hotels. They now partner with Mears Connect. We reserved a roundtrip ride from the airport to our hotel for $32 each.

5. Plan a runDisney race outfit

People get really into dressing up as Disney characters for the race. From magical rides to nostalgic character meet-and-greets, Disney World is a trip that no one should skip. No matter how old you are, this Orlando theme park will have everyone smiling. I grew up watching Disney movies and visiting Disney World from time to time. My most recent trip was this year for a RunDisney race weekend, to visit Magic Kingdom, and for a Star Wars lightsaber workshop in Hollywood Studios. I’ve also experienced Epcot’s International Food and Wine Festival, which was delicious. Over the years I’ve obtained different tips and tricks to make your Disney World visit most enjoyable. Keep reading for a comprehensive Disney World travel guide!

Disney World Vacation Planning To-Do List

Planning a Disney World vacation is no small feat, but it is worth every minute of preparation. If you’ve never visited, you may be unaware of the steps needed to do so. I’ve listed these out below!

Create a My Disney Experience account and download the My Disney Experience mobile app. Your account will be used to book your park tickets, hotel, & extras and the app will be needed for ride wait times, park maps, reserving Lightening Lane selections, mobile food ordering, and more.
Book your hotel stay (read where to stay below)
Purchase your Disney park ticket (Add Memory Maker and Genie+ at this time)
Make your Disney park reservation
Make any dining or Enchanting Extras reservations (available 60 days prior to park day)

Where to Stay During a Disney World Trip

One thing I can’t stress enough is how valuable it is to stay at a Walt Disney World resort hotel if you’re going to be visiting any of the Disney theme parks. These range in price, with the value resort hotels still offering a pleasant stay. I’ve stayed at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort a few times (a value-level resort) and it was great. I highly recommend booking your hotel, park tickets, Memory Maker, and Genie+ all together in a vacation package on Walt Disney World’s website. Below are the notable perks that Disney World resort hotel guests receive during their stay:

The complimentary shuttle buses to and from the theme parks alone will help save you some money. The resorts no longer Disney’s Magical Express at Orlando’s International Airport. They now partner with Mears Connect. We reserved a roundtrip ride from the airport to our hotel for $32 each. The bus was nice with a bathroom onboard and they made sure we got to our destination on time.

Disney PhotoPass Memory Maker

I highly recommend purchasing the Disney PhotoPass Memory Maker option when booking your park tickets. Professional photographers associated with Disney PhotoPass are stationed around the four theme parks in optimal picture spots (i.e. in front of Cinderella’s Castle). Before taking your photo, they will scan your MagicBand to have the images sync with your My Disney Experience account. The photos load pretty quickly (within 10-20 minutes after taking) within the app. Usually these would be sold for a cost and have a watermark over them. By purchasing Memory Maker you have unlimited access to all professional photos taken during your trip. This includes photos and videos from all four theme parks as well as RunDisney races (learn how to prepare for a RunDisney race weekend here).

Memory Maker for one day: $69
Memory Maker for your whole trip/more than one day: $169

This feature is great for groups, especially when it’s just two people and no one else to take quality photos of you together. Sometimes the PhotoPass staff will add fun Disney animations to your photos, like the image of Tinkerbell featured above!

Disney Genie+ Add-On

Disney theme park tickets can be purchased as a one day or multiple day (Park Hopper) option. They usually range between $135-$155 per day, plus tax. Remember, you must also make a park reservation with your park ticket! Disney Genie is a free service in your My Disney Experience account to save rides and shows to a wish list that you can refer to during your visit. Disney Genie+, however, is a paid add-on that allows you to make Lightening Lane (fast pass) selections. When selecting your park days, you can select Disney Genie+ as an add-on. If it doesn’t show in check out, you can add it later on after purchasing your park ticket.

I highly recommend Genie+ and having Lightening Lane access. If you hate waiting in long lines, or have someone with a disability that makes it hard to do so, Genie+ is a huge help. To give you an idea, we were able to select some of our favorite, long-wait rides throughout the day and only wait about 10 minutes in the Lightening Lane line compared to 60-70 minutes in the standby line. BIG difference. Offered Lightening Lane options include a variety of rides, character meet-and-greets, and shows in Disney World’s four theme parks – Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot, and Animal Kingdom.

Disney World Enchanting Extras Reservations

Disney World has some great secret gems, including their Enchanting Extras! These, in my opinion, are wildly underrated and under-advertised. You can find available Enchanting Extras on this page. They range from food-focused events to building workshops. During our most recent trip we did Savi’s Handbuilt Lightsabers Workshop in the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge section of Hollywood Studios. It was awesome! This workshop had us create our own custom lightsaber from scratch. We made our reservations when they became available 60 days out and left a bit of time open before and after it. This specific experience was $219.99 per person plus tax, but Enchanting Extras can range from $20 to $399 per person depending on what it is.

What to Do at Disney World

Once you’ve planned your trip, it’s time to arrive and enjoy! Make sure you make the most of your time at Disney World theme parks with the below list.

Disney World Rides with the Longest Wait Times

All Disney theme park rides and character meet-and-greets will have some type of wait time, but it will be a lot shorter with Genie+. From my experience, I’ve seen a pattern with which rides have the longest wait time and have the wait increase the fastest. These are the rides you’ll want to use your Genie+ Lightning Lane selections towards. I can only speak for Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios as those are the parks I’ve been on rides the most. As a rule of thumb, usually thrill rides will have a huge wait.

Custom Star Wars Lightsabers Experience

My recent trip to Disney World included a visit to Hollywood Studios – a park I haven’t been to in years! Since then they have added the popular Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge section. From riding Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run to being hawk-watched by Storm Troopers, the whole area is a different galaxy, however it’s secret gem is Savi’s Handbuilt Lightsaber Workshop. Reservations are needed for this experience. Keep reading below to learn how to make them!

Important Information About Reservations

Reservations for Savi’s Handbuilt Lightsaber Workshop will go live 60 days prior to your park visit date. I highly recommended making your reservation as soon as it becomes available as they can go fast, and the chance of a walk-up spot being open is very slim. The cost of the workshop is $219.99 per person, plus tax. This includes the 20-minute experience, one 31″ custom lightsaber, one carrying case, and a souvenir pin. A credit card is required to make the reservation, but will not be charged until the day of the workshop when you check in. In addition to your workshop reservation, you will also need a valid park ticket and park reservation to Hollywood Studios for that same day. Workshop cancellations must be done at least one day prior to avoid cancellation fees.

Choosing Your Hilt Style

After checking in with a Gatherer at Savi’s Workshop, you will be presented with four hilt themes to choose from: Peace & Justice, Power & Control, Elemental Nature, and Protection & Defense. The style you choose will determine which hilt pieces you’ll obtain to create your lightsaber. After deciding, the Gatherer will hand you a check-in card and a souvenir enamel pin that corresponds with your theme (shown above). They were to be worn on the left side over your heart, visible for the Gatherers to see. I picked Protection & Defense. The pins were a nice surprise momento!

Building Your Lightsaber

Once everyone has checked in, the group will be led inside by Gatherers to your building post. They then brought out your respected kit of parts based on your pin’s theme. These were numbered and sorted for you to choose from as you assembled your hilt. First we got to pick our crystal: violet, blue, green, or red (I chose violet). Next, the Gatherers led us through the creation of our custom hilt and igniting our lightsabers in a special chamber. It was magical! I loved how my hilt turned out and seeing everyone activate their lightsaber was really cool. Definitely a unique experience that you can’t do anywhere else!

Tips for After the Workshop

Now that you have your lightsaber, it’s time to take pictures around Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. We had purchased a Disney Memory Maker when booking our park tickets (highly recommend), so we found a Disney PhotoPass cast member to take photos of us together with our lightsabers! They did a great job and provided us with a lot of options to choose from. Since we wanted to continue our day at the park, and not deal with the lightsabers on the flight home, we dropped off our carrying cases at Droid Depot to be shipped. Both items were sent to one address for around $35 with standard shipping.

How to Prepare for a runDisney Race Weekend

My first time doing the #Enchanted10k at runDisney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend was in February 2016, and I’ve been chasing that Disney high ever since. My second Princess 10k was in February 2017, where I participated with my sister. Now, by happy chance, we will be doing the Princess 5k in February 2022. I literally can’t wait. Not only we will be doing the race, but we will also get to visit Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios while we’re there as well. If you are thinking about signing up for a future event, there are a few things that will help you prepare for a runDisney race weekend. Read below to plan the best runDisney trip possible!

Steps to Prepare for a runDisney Race Weekend

1. Register for the race

Step one, as expected, is to register for the race. runDisney offers a handful of race weekends each year at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. All of them can be found on the runDisney website where they will announce when registration opens. These spots go really fast, so it’s important that you’re online and ready to click register when your chosen race weekend goes live. Once in line, you will be able to register yourself and any additional participants if needed. You will be asked your typical contact information as well as your race shirt size and if you want to add on any race swag extras (pins, Pandora charms, etc.).

2. Reserve your hotel

After securing your race registration, I highly recommend that you create a MyDisneyExperience account and book your hotel as soon as possible. Rooms during race weekends go fast. I also highly recommend to stay at a Disney hotel rather than outside of the parks. Disney hotels offer free shuttle buses to and from Walt Disney World throughout the whole day. This is a big perk for the morning of race day! My hotel of choice is always one of the Disney All-Star Resorts, which are nice and affordable.

3. Purchase your theme park tickets

Now that you have your hotel booked, it’s time to purchase and reserve your theme park tickets. Walt Disney World consists of four different parks: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. Ticket options include one park per day, more than one park per day (Park Hopper), and more. Purchasing your theme park tickets is a two-parter. First, select your ticket option. Once bought, you will need to reserve which park you want to go to on which day. This can be done under ‘Park Reservations’ in your MyDisneyExperience portal.

4. Book your flight

If outside of the area, you will need to book a flight to Orlando, Florida. I start looking at options very early so I can track the prices and find a good deal. As of January 2022, Disney will no longer offer their free Magical Express shuttle from the airport to Disney hotels. This leaves Mears Connect, taxis and Ubers/Lyfts to get to your destination.

5. Select your MagicBand

Once linked to your MyDisneyExperience account, MagicBands are used to enter the parks, connect to the Disney PhotoPass Service, enter your Disney Resort Hotel room, and make purchases sent to your Disney Resort Hotel bill. There are two options on how to select your MagicBand: on shopdisney.com or through your portal. Having your Disney hotel reservations linked to your portal allows you to view a selection of pre-order, discounted MagicBands.

6. Add a PhotoPass Memory Maker

While not required, PhotoPass Memory Maker will be a great addition to your trip. Linking this to your MagicBand allows you to download and view all of the professional photos taken of you at the parks. These include pictures you get with characters, pictures in front of popular spots where photographers are stationed, etc. We purchased this last time we went to Disney and it was totally worth it. Options include photos from one day or photos during your entire trip.

7. Plan a runDisney race outfit

Dressing up for the race is, in my opinion, the best part. People get really into it and there’s always a good variety of characters featured. For my first runDisney race weekend I went as Princess Jasmine. The following year I was inspired by Princess Pocahontas. This time I’m leaning more towards a Disney Villian – either Evie from Descendants, Ursula, or Megara. Make sure to follow RunDisney’s costume guidelines when planning. It’s also a good idea to test your race outfit before your trip to avoid any mishaps. Here are the Race Polices specifically for the runDisney Princess Marathon Weekend.

8. Pack a portable phone charger

There’s a good chance your phone could die during the race before you even reach the parks afterwards. Between taking pictures with Disney characters on the course and listening to pump-up jams, your phone battery is going to need some extra voltage. I like to keep a portal phone charger in my backpack while in the parks so that there’s no panicking while in a large, crowded area.

Every runDisney race weekend features a runDisney Health & Fitness Expo at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. It is required to attend the RunDisney Health & Fitness Expo to pick up your race number, event shirt, and gEAR bag, however the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo also features a variety of runDisney race weekend merchandise and the latest in apparel and fitness equipment. From event jackets to the latest New Balance running shoes, the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo is an experience in itself.

runDisney Health & Fitness Expo Tip

There are usually a couple photo backdrops when you first enter the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex grounds. These feature the runDisney race logo and make for a great photo op! I was able to get this fun jumping shot my first year.
